The game was inspired by Haversine's game SCP-087. It started off as an extremely simple minigame I wrote one weekend just for fun, but it got so much attention and positive comments that I took it a bit further, adding more floors, different kinds of rooms and random events.
As part of the SCP Foundation collection of fan games, SCP-087 is one of the very first titles created and had eventually inspired numerous other games to be designed for the popular fiction website. It uses procedural generation for its jumpscares but it is honestly very short in length.
This is not much of a "game", meaning there isn't any real gameplay mechanics. This is intended to be a short atmospheric horror experience, that takes an updated approach to the story of SCP-087.
I played the original SCP-087, so I was excited to find this one, especially when it had a story to tell. The controls were good, so no complaints there. The sounds combinations were great, felt the heavy atmosphere through the screen. This game terrified me just like the original. I don't know what it is, but games with such simple mechanics just get me scared, I even had to remove my headphones. The only complaint was that I was expecting one last jump scare at the end, and the design of the horror character could have had more to it. Other than that, amazing! I loved it!
Hello, GHST. First of all, I want to say that I have played your game and enjoyed it. Great atmosphere, catchy graphics, shivery environment. If you are looking to translate your game to other languages, I'd be glad to help you to translate it to Turkish.
The SCP universe is one of the most popular crowd-written setting on the internet. There's nothing else quite like it in history and its setting is so full of SCPs that it has an endless potential for games. The community has largely obliged by creating a ton of SCP games, and one of many of them is SCP-087, a game based on SCP-087, an infinite staircase populated by a floating face.
This game is much like the last game. You play as a D-Class which is one of many disposable test subjects in the SCP foundation's arsenal. You simply have to descend the staircase. The game is taking place from the perspective of the D-Class's camera. That, on top of the fact that the flashlight handed to the D-Class only illuminates a few feet in front of them, gives the game a very grainy and claustrophobic feel.
The game is incredibly faithful to the original SCP-087 story. As you descend further and further, you'll start hearing some incredibly creepy and eerie sounds. However, unlike the last game, there is a proper end. When you reach the final floor - a number between 70 and 150 - and at the end, the floating face called SCP-087-1 will pop out, rush at you, and crash the game. Underwhelming? Maybe, but there's never been happy endings in SCP games.
Here we have yet another cult minimalist indie horror game under the name SCP-087. How this game came to fruition makes as little sense as the product idea - but we know it's meant to scare the heebie-jeebies out of its players. Maybe the fact that it is shrouded in so much mystery adds to the game's atmosphere?
When it was released - it was not obtainable on traditional gaming platforms. It came as a ZIP file that you would unlock and run as an independent application. Honestly, the beginnings of SCP-087 sound like something out of the Creepypasta forums - so now, this has me intrigued. What's this neverending stairwell game all about then?
SCP-087 was created by a niche of game developers known as the SCP Foundation, specializing in paranormal fiction stories. It's pretty quick to identify that this is a cult game. No doubt it was meant to be played among frequenters of the SCP website. That explains to the unsuspecting user why this game is so nonsensical. The game is literally an endless staircase situated in the dark. The player will continue down an eternal flight of steps in pitch black - with nothing but a flashlight. Your objective - to find the mystery of what lurks at the bottom of the stairs. Throughout your slow journey, you will hear many skin-crawling sounds with a few jumps that will make you turn your shoulder. Even points whether you want to progress any further.
If you don't want any spoilers - don't read any further. If you are just curious about the game - I could save you an investment in time. Absolutely nothing happens. On the surface, this game is pointless. The whole playthrough is procedurally generated, so you never hit an end - you'll just spend a long time being creeped out before you give up.There's no combat, no narrative, or any sort of objectives incorporated into the game. It's as minimalist as they come - and indefinitely something that could be enjoyed if you have the correct information going into it.
