This tool is very similar to the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant and is designed to work with the Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 upgrade. The main difference is that it is in charge of updating the upgrade key.

Before you attempt to find your product key, you need to do a quick check to see if you already have it. Most popular Windows versions (including Windows 10) come with unique product keys by default. To find the product key for your version of Windows, first look in the registry to see whether you already have one. If so, you can save time by trying the first few product keys you find. (In the Windows 10 home preview, you can do this by going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Win10Preview. If you find your version, right-click it and choose Pin to Start. You can also find the product key by going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\version, where version is the OS version.
If you need to find out the product key for your version of Windows, but you can't find it in the registry, try the following: Go to the Windows 10 store on your computer and search for the version you're looking for. You can filter the search results to show only Windows 10, so if you get a message saying "Get it" or "Try it out," you know it's the right one.
